Filtermist joins Welding World Association

Best known for its UK manufactured oil mist filters, Filtermist Limited also provides a wide range of dust and fume extraction solutions, including mobile and on-tool extraction, for welding fume. The Telford based company has recently joined Welding World Association following a conversation at MACH last month.

Joining Welding World Association was the next logical step for Filtermist as part of its efforts to grow this area of the business. Filtermist has been a member of a number of trade associations for many years and recognises the benefits offered by membership – not least the chance to learn from, and network with, other members.

Ben Kimpton, Filtermist’s UK Sales Manager for Dust and Fume units, elaborates, “Illnesses including occupational asthma, pneumonia, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and ‘metal fume fever’ are all linked to exposure to fume and smoke widely found in facilities where welding and cutting take place.

“Controlling exposure to weld fume and smoke is a legal requirement under COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2002; all employers are required to assess all risks and put control measures in place to lower identified risks to ‘ALARP’ – as low as reasonably practicable.

“We have offered weld fume extraction services for a number of years and began looking at this more seriously when the HSE changed its enforcement expectation for mild steel welding fume back in 2019. This resulted from research which indicated that all welding fume has the potential to cause lung cancer. Many of our core Filtermist customers undertake both CNC machining and fabrication, so moving into welding fume extraction was a natural progression for our business.

“We are in the process of introducing a range of mobile extraction and on-tool extraction units to Filtermist’s ‘Dustcheck’ brand, so now is a great time for us to be joining Welding World Association. We are looking forward to meeting other members and hearing the latest industry developments.”

As well as offering a wide range of products, Filtermist has a dedicated contracts division which provides a comprehensive turnkey solution for local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems of all sizes. Our team will specify, install and commission extraction systems, whilst our Aftermarket department provides servicing and maintenance, spares and consumables, and COSHH compliant LEV testing for all makes and models of LEV equipment.
