We are Filtermist... Steve Raine

Steve Raine, Site Engineering Manager and Site Coordinator

“Working at Filtermist makes you feel part of a team where positive and proactive thinking is actively encouraged - not only in engineering, but across the company as a whole. There is still a feel of a small family business, but you are aware of the fact that this is a dynamic company that is going places!”

Steve joined Gallito Limited as a Project Design Engineer in 1996 back when the offices were just a portacabin on the yard and the workshop was located in a small part of the Second World War Royal Ordnance Factory on the Wetherby trading estate where Gallito products are still manufactured.

Steve has worked through the acquisition of Gallito by the DCS Group in 2014, and the resulting relocation across the industrial estate to larger premises in 2016 in a move designed to house FastClip ducting manufacturing and the new Kimla Fibre Laser machine.

He then saw more change when the entire DCS Group was acquired by Filtermist in 2019.

Before joining Gallito Steve had left his previous role as a Design Draughtsman at Permastore Ltd (previously Boythorpe Cropstores) as they were relocating from Weaverthorpe, near Scarborough to Eye in Suffolk.  The role at Gallito presented an opportunity for Steve to move to the Wetherby area and develop his skills in sheet metal design and manufacture.

Initially employed as Design Engineer Steve’s responsibilities included site surveys, generating manufacturing drawings and programming the CNC punch press.  This gave him the knowledge and experience to progress to arranging and supervising installations and final commissioning of the plant when the business became part of DCS.

“Steve is an integral part of the team with his extensive knowledge of the Gallito and FastClip ducting brands, as well as the other brands Filtermist acquired as part of DCS a few years ago. His knowledge spans decades and he’s been key in improving manufacturing processes and integrating the Gallito products into the Filtermist range,” said Simon Barron, Director of Group Manufacturing.

Steve’s primary role includes the specification, design and manufacture of bespoke finishing plant along with the manufacture of items for Filtermist products using the latest 3D CAD software and CNC manufacturing technology.  As Site Coordinator he is also responsible for overseeing health and safety and the general day to day logistics of running the Wetherby site. “The company invests in training for all employees to nurture career progression and I have undertaken training in mental health awareness, CE marking, BOHS P602 LEV Design Principles and been a part the Leadership Advancement Program.”
