"I wouldn't buy a machine without a Filtermist oil mist filter"

MTD CNC spoke to Mike Jerdin at MTT Engineering Ltd in Cheshire to find out why he included a Filtermist oil mist filter with his first Nakamura-Tome machine from ETG:

"I remember the days of manual machine shops where there was no Filtermist and the cutting fluids weren't perhaps as clean as they are today. I wouldn't want to go back to those days - I'm sure many people wouldn't. With the nature of this machine, we're removing a lot of metal incredibly quickly, we're now using high pressure coolant, so we're now atomising coolant into small particles. Honestly, you do not want that airborne and breathing it in. The Filtermist unit just takes care of it. For me, I wouldn't buy a machine without a Filtermist oil mist filter. If you haven't got one, I strongly recommend you consider getting one.

"We chose Filtermist because the price point was great and it came as part of the machine package, so that was a real appeal. It was a very clean install and I've worked with them for many years working in the machine tool industry. In this industry, I'm doing lots of low volume batch work, repeat changeovers, possibly two to three sets on average a day, which means that my unit was running quite a lot of the time when the machine wasn't whilst we were doing setups. So, I've had this interfaced into the machine pumps now. When the pumps come on, it brings on a contactor, and the Filtermist unit starts working. When the pumps go off, this will stay on for a period of time to clear the cabinet and then it goes off so I'm not ripping through electric unnecessarily.

"The Filtermist came as one of the optional extras to the machine. I'd always tick the box and say, yes, let's have it, let's do it. So yes, ETG arranged it for me and it was all installed on site so I didn't have do anything really apart from saying yes I would like that option. Would I buy a Filtermist again? I wouldn't buy a machine without one.”
