Specialist oil mist team strengthened with the addition of Simon Harkis

Filtermist’s dedicated oil mist team has recently been strengthened with the addition of Key Account Manager, Simon Harkis. Simon brings an impressive combination of academic prowess and practical expertise to our team, making him an invaluable asset for our customers.

Commercial Director Jo Morris comments, “Filtermist works very closely with many of the UK’s leading machine tool manufacturers (original equipment manufacturers – OEMs) and their distributors to ensure end-users benefit from the best mist extraction possible for their specific applications.

“The machine tool supply industry has differing requirements from end-users and, rightly, demands a different level of service. It is vital companies work with reliable partners that deliver quality products and services otherwise it can negatively impact their own reputations.

“As a full-service provider, we not only manufacture our products right here in the UK, but we also provide comprehensive technical support including installation, commissioning and aftermarket, which means our OEM customers can be confident that their customers will be well supported.

“Having Simon onboard means our customers can access a wealth of technical knowledge and, more importantly, he is a genuinely nice guy who is keen to help wherever he can.”

Simon has already represented Filtermist at a number of Trade Association meetings and OEM Open Houses. He says, “I’m in month four now and have met with many of our main customers both at their sites, at Open Houses and whilst out trekking with the BTMA!

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to help the UK manufacturing industry ensure clean air becomes the norm. Pumping polluted air outside is merely moving the problem around – effective local exhaust ventilation removes the problem at source. That’s what the HSE expects to see and what all employers should be aiming for.”

Simon’s professional journey began at Durham University where he earned a degree in Chemistry. His thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there – he then went on to complete a PhD in Polymer Chemistry, a challenging path that included completing three Master’s projects. This gave Simon a deep understanding of materials and their interactions at a molecular level - a crucial aspect of effective filtration.

Starting his career in research and development, Simon focussed on making products more sustainable. His technical knowledge and innovative mindset allowed him to develop environmentally friendly solutions that didn’t compromise on performance. Simon then transitioned into Sales where he leveraged his technical expertise to drive business, ensuring clients received products that met their needs.

Simon’s expertise in filtration is further demonstrated by his experience testing HEPA filters for leading commercial vacuum brands. This knowledge is particularly beneficial for the Kerstar brand of industrial vacuum cleaners which are manufactured by Filtermist Limited.

As a Key Account Manager Simon’s role is diverse. Whilst mainly tasked with working with our key oil mist accounts in the UK, Simon’s wide-ranging technical knowledge combined with his practical experience and problem-solving abilities, allows him to support a variety of Filtermist customers.
