Filtermist Applications Engineer Nigel Hicks has recently celebrated 25 years of working at Filtermist, having joined the business in March 1998.

Nigel is a familiar face with Filtermist customers both in the UK and around the world thanks to his extensive applications experience and wealth of knowledge. He regularly supports Filtermist’s global distributors with customer visits to advise on the best solution for specific oil mist extraction requirements.

Nigel first joined Filtermist to set up a dedicated installation and service department – before he joined these were both outsourced to sub-contractors. Nigel takes up the story: “I had a family connection to Filtermist so started off helping out at weekends for some additional income. I joined full-time in 1998 and then my colleague Neil Morgan, who had been working on the assembly line, joined me out on the road and the rest, as they say, is history!”

As well as supporting the UK sales team and customers, Nigel regularly travels overseas to share his expertise with Filtermist’s global distributors. Recent visits have included Mexico, Israel and Ireland and Nigel also has an honorary role helping the marketing team with exhibitions in the UK and Europe. Filtermist also draws on Nigel’s knowledge during product development meetings.

“After 25 years in the business lots of people do turn to me for advice about a huge range of topics,” continues Nigel. “Having visited so many customers I have seen and contributed to a huge number and variety of installations and that’s what keeps the job interesting. I’m out and about every day, meeting different people and seeing how manufacturers operate all over the world. No two days are ever the same and that’s just how I like it!”
