Filtermist set to raise big money for cervical cancer charity in 2022

Filtermist is raising money for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust throughout 2022 with a packed calendar of fundraising events.

It all kicked off in February when staff donned their aprons for a big clean! Volunteers from across the company stayed behind after hours to provide a cleaning service, usually outsourced by Filtermist, and in return the company has donated £500 to the charity – the money it would have spent if an external cleaning contractor had been used.

Filtermist proudly supports a range of individuals, charities and organisations each year who are connected to its employees. This fundraising activity has been spearheaded by Aftermarket Team Leader Jane Boon who lost her 26-year-old daughter Laura to the disease in September 2020 (pictured together at the top of the page).

Laura had been diagnosed at the beginning of the Covid pandemic but as she was living in Spain, and due to strict travel restrictions at the time, she was unable to return to the UK before she lost her battle with the disease. Her son Memphis was just six years old when he lost his mum and now lives with Jane and her family here in the UK.

Jane told us:

“The pain of losing your daughter to a disease usually associated with older women cannot be put into words. Laura was fit and healthy before her diagnosis and was just so full of life. The fact that she left behind my grandson at such a young age has broken our hearts so the least we can do now is try and work to raise awareness to help prevent this terrible disease destroying more young lives.

When myself and my team came up with the fundraising idea we were thinking quite small. Once Filtermist got behind us it evolved into something much bigger, and we hope to raise thousands of pounds for the charity over the course of this year.”

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the UK’s leading cervical cancer charity. Their vision is a future where cervical cancer is a thing of the past. Until then, they want to see cervical cancer prevented and reduce the impact of a cervical cell changes (abnormal cells) or cervical cancer diagnosis.

There are many events planned for this year including a quiz, raffles and even a ‘mud-run’. We’ll be publishing more stories throughout the year to promote the events and help Jane to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

All donations are being managed on Jane’s Just Giving page which can be found here: https://justgiving.com/fundraising/jane-boon
