Filtermist showcases world class extraction expertise at Southern Manufacturing 2014

Filtermist will be showcasing an extensive range of its own brand oil mist collectors, as well as oil smoke, dust and fume extraction equipment from its Swedish parent company, Absolent, on stand Q102 at Southern Manufacturing 2014.

Oil mist removal
Filtermist has been manufacturing centrifugal oil mist collectors since 1969 and now sells its units into more than 60 countries worldwide. There are more than 200,000 Filtermists in daily operation worldwide in a range of manufacturing sectors including automotive, aerospace and medical technologies. Southern Manufacturing 2014 offers an opportunity to showcase Filtermist’s full range of oil mist extraction units, including its smallest models to date, the recently introduced S Series.

Absolent UK
As the sole UK distributor for Absolent, Filtermist will also be showing a selection of oil smoke, dust and fume extractors, including the latest addition to its A•smoke family - the compact A•smoke5 oil smoke filter.

The A•smoke5 is a machine-mountable filter unit specifically designed for removing oil smoke in industrial workplaces. It has a highly efficient EC-fan and integrated airflow control which ensures that the filter unit consumes a relatively small amount of energy and compensates for changes in the system. This allows the filter unit to maintain the correct airflow level throughout the production cycle for the lifetime of the filter – reducing cost as well as energy usage.

Servicing and spares
Filtermist will also be highlighting the quality of servicing and maintenance it offers, for both its own and Absolent units. Managing Director, James Stansfield, says, “We offer comprehensive maintenance agreements to ensure COSHH compliance and unlike some suppliers, we only use genuine Filtermist and Absolent parts in all repairs and service work – this way our customers can be sure their unit is functioning correctly at all times.

“Both companies have spent decades researching the best materials to increase filter longevity and decrease long term replacement costs - customers can only achieve these cost-savings by using genuine parts.”

New products
Filtermist first launched Vortex and F Monitor to an international audience at EMO in Hannover in September and a number of its global distributors have since exhibited the new products at trade shows around the world, including Metalex in Thailand and Machine Tool Indonesia in Jakarta.

Attendance at international trade shows plays a vital role in Filtermist’s marketing activities, as Stansfield explains, “We work with a highly pro-active global distributor network that realises the value of face to face contact with both existing and potential customers. This is equally true in the UK - we successfully launched the CSX at Southern Manufacturing 2013 and we’re confident that the 2014 show will offer an effective platform to introduce our UK customers to Vortex and F Monitor.”

‘Vortex’ is a brand new pre-filter which has been specifically designed for use in high volume / low pressure coolant applications, such as multi-spindle machines. The volume of oil used in these applications means traditional oil filters can quickly become saturated, incurring additional replacement and disposal costs.

Sales Manager, Stuart Plimmer, says, “The Vortex sits underneath the Filtermist unit and is held securely in place with over centre lid clamps. The blades inside the unit force the saturated air to spiral, separating the large oil droplets from the air. The remaining oil mist then passes through the Filtermist unit as normal – oil is collected by both the Vortex and Filtermist unit and returned to the machine, and clean air is exhausted back into the workplace.”

F Monitor is Filtermist’s new monitoring system which advises machine operators when the extraction unit needs servicing, or if any of the filters are blocked. Filtermist advises that its units should be serviced every 2000 hours they are in use - COSHH regulations also require all LEV systems to be tested every 14 months. F Monitor can be retro-fitted to the complete Filtermist range and is sold as an optional accessory on all new units.
