Local construction company appointed for £3m HQ

Filtermist is delighted to announce that it has appointed a local company to undertake construction of its new £3m global Headquarters at the Telford 54 site.

Part of the Morris Company group of businesses, Shrewsbury based Morris Property Ltd was awarded the contract following a competitive tender process. The family owned company boasts over 100 years’ experience in both new build and restorative construction and counts Stadco in Telford and the Welsh Assembly Government amongst its clients.

Morris Property is delighted to add Filtermist’s new headquarters to the list of high profile contracts it has secured recently, as Chief Executive Ian Galliers testifies, “We work across the UK, but it’s always particularly pleasing to win local contracts. Filtermist is going from strength to strength and we are proud to be playing a part in the next chapter of its evolution.”

Investment in the new production facility which will include 848m₂ of office space as well as production, warehousing and dispatch facilities totalling 1918m₂, is designed to reflect Filtermist’s position as a global market leader.

First established in 1969 in Bridgnorth, Filtermist now exports its oil mist collectors to more than 60 countries worldwide and works closely with a number of the world’s leading manufacturers in sectors including aerospace, automotive, defence, food production and medical technologies.

Randall Taft, Filtermist’s Operations Director, responsible for managing the project says, “As a company with its roots in Shropshire, we are keen to work with local suppliers wherever possible. Morris Property has a wealth of experience in constructing buildings of this type and we’re confident that the team’s expertise will prove invaluable as the build progresses.”

Currently located in Bridgnorth, all of Filtermist’s existing employees will be making the move to Telford when the new facility is up and running – a vital factor in the decision on where best to locate to ensure the company can continue to meet growing global demand.

Randall continues, “We are lucky to have an extremely dedicated and loyal team, some of whom have worked at Filtermist for more than 25 years. Our people are extremely important to us and we needed to be sure that any proposed relocation would not negatively impact on our existing workforce. That said, the new location will also enable us to benefit from great transport links which is always an important consideration when recruiting new employees.”

Filtermist and Shrewsbury based SSJ Chartered Surveyors worked closely with the Regeneration and Investments Team at Telford & Wrekin Council to secure the plot on Telford 54 located just off the M54 and only 10 miles from Jaguar Land Rover’s new engine plant at i54, Wolverhampton.

Councillor Bill McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Finance and Enterprise, said, “This appointment is more good news for the local economy. The region benefits from some excellent long established businesses and we are always happy to hear examples of local companies working together.”

Work is due to begin on site on 21st October with an official ground-breaking ceremony which will be attended by a number of local dignitaries including the Mayor of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin, Malcolm Smith, and Cllr Bill McClements. The build is scheduled for completion by the end of July 2015.
