QSHE Manager explains how Filtermist ensures competency

‘Competency’ is a term frequently referred to in connection with suppliers that provide services which are governed by health and safety legislation. For example, COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2002 require all LEV (local exhaust ventilation) systems to be thoroughly tested and examined by a ‘competent’ person at least once every 14 months.

The HSE defines competency as ‘….the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has, and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely. Other factors, such as attitude and physical ability, can also affect someone’s competence.’

Our Director of Group Marketing, Lydia Barber, recently spoke to Filtermist’s QSHE Manager, Gail Lees, to find out why competency is so important and how we ensure Filtermist engineers are competent to carry out servicing and LEV testing for our customers.
