Up-skilling during a pandemic

Manufacturing Support Engineer, Marc Saunders, is celebrating this month as he passes his HNC in Manufacturing Technology.

Marc’s course started in September 2019 and involved day release at Shrewsbury College with the course being delivered in conjunction with Staffordshire University. When the 2020 lockdown began Marc’s learning moved online, and he completed his studies in January.

“Learning online was a challenge but the college has delivered the course in live online lessons. Adapting to a new way of learning was daunting but both Filtermist and Shrewsbury College have been massively supportive,” Marc said.

We’ve featured Marc before in our ‘We are Filtermist’ series. He joined Filtermist seven years ago – initially starting off on Filtermist’s assembly line before moving through the manufacturing department in roles including Spot Welder, Service and Installation, CNC programmer and Robot Operator.

Marc, who took part in Filtermist’s first Rising Stars Programme in 2019, was promoted early last year to ‘Manufacturing Support Engineer’ and his new role provided a link between the Engineering team and Production team whilst supporting the whole manufacturing process.

At the end of last year Marc moved over to our Kerstar team and has spent time at our Northampton site working on our Lean Manufacturing project.

“Filtermist have been really supportive in my learning and I’ve been given the opportunity to put the theory learned on my course into practice as we look to improve Kerstar’s manufacturing process,” Marc commented.

Everyone at Filtermist would like to congratulate Marc for all of his hard work!
